Frequently Asked Questions

Websites serve not only as a front door to welcoming new people to your ministry; they can also serve staff by providing relevant information, training tools, and resources. Your own website gives you a place where you can prioritize your own ministry goals and create personalized content to your mission, city, or networks unique audience.

Three Big Advantages:

The right technology stack: Websites are complicated. There are many different tools available to make building websites easy and inexpensive – but like when buying a car its important to know what you want your site to do for you before settling on a website platform. You may end up with a Honda Civic when you really need a Ford F-150 to accomplish your ministry goals. The Field Support Center has built a platform of tools around the common goals and objectives of each mission, city, and network so you can feel confident the platform can meet your needs and continue to grow and adapt along with your ministry.

Ongoing Maintenance: When engaging outside vendors (agency’s, friends, ministry partners) you may be able to get a great deal on a new website – Many people love the work of the Navigators and are willing to give us discount pricing. However, the day you launch your website is just the beginning. Websites are not static. Ongoing maintenance, content changes/updates, security maintenance, and bugs/enhancements are often more costly than the initial development of a website. Worse yet, many small vendors cannot provide the level of support needed and you end up with a website that can’t easily be updated or changed. The Field Support Center has a team of professionals ready and able to manage these ongoing tasks so you can be sure your website is always up to date, secure, and changes can be done quickly and efficiently.

Cost savings: When building a website there are always additional hidden costs for plugins, security features, domain names, etc. The Field Support Center has access to discounted hosting and domain names so we get the best pricing available. The FSC also provides access to a custom suite of WordPress plugins at no additional cost. The suite of plugins are ones we identified to be helpful across each mission, city, and network so we are sure they will be helpful for your unique use case.

Websites can be completed in as short as 4 weeks but often times projects last about 6-8 weeks. The length of time will depend on how much new content is needed versus redesigning/migrating an existing website and all its existing content. We are currently scheduling new website projects out 4-5 weeks.

Website hosting costs $500 dollars annually and provides daily backups, site updates, and a development environment. Each domain name is $12 per domain each year.

  • Updates: The Field Support Center will keep your website up to date, secure, and make sure you never lose access to the website. We can help trouble shoot bugs, implement future website enhancements, and provide training to new and existing staff needing access to your website.
  • Content management: We provide two levels of support to best meet your needs. Regardless of how much support you need, the FSC will provide you with blog posts and announcements from other cities, missions, and networks that may be relevant to your own city so you can keep your audience engaged.
    1. Self-managed content: We provide WordPress training so you and your team can add, update, or remove pages and content anytime you want. We are still here to help if you run into a snag or run into more advanced problems requiring bug fixes or website enhancements.
    2. Supported content management: We can post content to your website on your behalf – just send us the changes and content you want posted and we will take care of it for you. Beyond posting content we can also provide detailed reports of how users are finding your website and provide content ideas to attract more users to your website.

We start with a strategy meeting to get an idea of what your website needs to do for you and your users. We identify your target audiences, feature requests, and design preferences. We will then work together to create an Information Architecture that will meet your content needs. From there, we begin building the website as you provide the content.

It is the city team’s responsibility to make sure the content on the website is always current. To ensure this happens, it is important to have at least one person actively checking the website to make sure all content is up to date. If anything on the website needs changed, it is their responsibility to either update the website or let the MarCom team know so that they can make the necessary changes.

  • Website Maintenance: FSC
    • This includes website updates, security, access, hosting, uptime, and domain renewals.
  • Content Creation: City
    • The city is responsible for writing content for the website – whether that be blog posts, about us pages, homepage updates etc. The FSC may make recommendations and will share relevant blog posts from other cities, missions, networks that you may choose to post to your own site but ultimately that responsibility is up to the city.
  • Content Strategy: FSC and City
    • The FSC can help you craft a content strategy for your website if you are unsure of what type of content your website should be delivering. From there we can develop a content calendar the City can use to create a steady stream of content to the website.
  • Content Management: FSC and City
    • The FSC can post content but you need to let the FSC know what you want to post. You are also free to post and update content on your own if you have the capacity to do so. Whether it being posting a blog, adding a new page, or adding details about your upcoming event, you are responsible for executing the or requesting the changes be made by the FSC. The FSC will not monitor your site and let you know when content is no longer timely or relevant. changes
